Supported Employment

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Employment is a primary goal of most people with serious mental illness. "Work is the most direct step to recovery, and Individual Placement and Support (IPS)-also called supported employment- is the only evidenced-based practice for helping people get work." The President's New Freedon Commission Report (2003)

NAMI of DuPage is participating with three other Illinois counties in an effort known as The Illinois Family Project to expand family involvement in IPS. The project's goal is to educate families of individuals with mental illness to advocate for, create, and expand high quality IPS programs that result in an increased number of people in sustained competitive employment.
