Wheaton, IL: NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) DuPage announces that Angela Adkins, Executive Director of NAMI DuPage, was awarded the Executive Director of the Year award by the West Suburban Philanthropic Network (WSPN) for making a difference in the lives of individuals and families impacted by mental illness and engaging community support for the organization. The WSPN 14TH annual awards luncheon was held on May 17th at the Embassy Suites in Naperville.
Adkins was chosen over several nominees for her dedication, compassion and leadership in bringing mental health awareness to the forefront and leading a variety of mental health programs, including support, education, social recreation, job preparedness and a peer-led crisis stabilization alternative to hospital emergency room treatment. One of her biggest accomplishments has been a historic private-public partnership with the DuPage County Health Department, which has enabled both agencies to provide complimentary services that address mental health needs while remaining fiscally independent. Under Adkin’s leadership, NAMI DuPage has grown from serving 12,000 people in 2010 to over 34,000 people in 2015.
