Securities that are actively traded on recognized stock exchanges in the U.S. will be accepted as gifts. Securities given to NAMI DuPage will typically be liquidated as soon as possible. Securities may be transferred directly to NAMI DuPage’s brokerage account. Donors should contact the NAMI DuPage Development Department for transmittal instructions.
Gifts of real estate may include residential property such as a primary home, vacation home or investment rental property. In general, residential real estate located within DuPage and Kane counties will be accepted, unless NAMI DuPage shall determine that the property is not suitable for acceptance as a gift based on marketability, physical condition, zoning restrictions, appraised value, related expenses, environmental issues, liens, loans mortgages or other special conditions that would cause potential additional expense, risk or liability. Unless the gift is for programmatic use, NAMI DuPage will attempt to sell such gifts as soon as possible after receipt. Donors contemplating a current gift of real estate should contact the Development Depart for further information.
Gifts of artwork, jewelry, coin or stamp collections, or any similarly unique asset or collectible may be accepted by NAMI DuPage. Gifts of personal property shall not be accepted without first being appraised by a 3rd party chosen by NAMI DuPage.
NAMI DuPage will generally accept life insurance but it must be named as both beneficiary and irrevocable owner of an insurance policy before a life insurance policy can be recorded as a gift.
NAMI DuPage is registered with Vehicle Donation to Any Charity, LLC (V-DAC), a commercial fundraiser registered with the Attorney General of the State of California, to accept vehicles, such as cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles or motor homes, for our benefit. There are NO costs to the donor. The costs of towing, title transfer, processing and management of the vehicle donation program are paid for from the proceeds of the vehicle sale. V-DAC also maintains a $2 million liability and indemnity policy to protect donors and nonprofit. Net proceeds are sent to V-DAC’s “Central Charity” for the benefit of NAMI DuPage. NAMI DuPage is guaranteed a minimum 70% of net proceeds and receives even more on higher value vehicles. Donors are entitled to receive a tax deduction equal to the sales price of the vehicle, if they itemize their deductions. If the vehicle is sold for less than $500, donors can deduct the “fair market value” up to $500. Donors will receive a tax receipt or IRS Form 1098C stating what the vehicle sold for within 30 days of the sale.

3. MEMORIAL AND HONORARY GIFTS
NAMI DuPage accepts donor gifts made in remembrance of deceased family members, friends or loved ones (memorial gifts) as well as those gifts made in honor of living individuals (honorary gifts).
Memorial gifts are often made in response to announcements in obituaries or memorial service programs. Local area funeral homes will often have information or envelopes from which to make a gift to NAMI DuPage.
Honorary gifts are often made in recognition of personal/professional accomplishments or important life events such as birthdays, weddings or retirements.
NAMI DuPage will provide gift receipted letters to all donors making memorial or honorary gifts, provided names and addresses are furnished. In addition, NAMI DuPage will send a corresponding letter of acknowledgement to the designated family member of a memorial gift or the honoree of a honorary gift. Actual gift amounts are not included on the contact’s gift notifications. However, the donor’s actual gift receipt will indicate the amount contributed.
In the event that a large number of memorial gifts are made in remembrance of any one individual, the Development Department will provide the designated family contacts or honoree with periodic reports providing the donor names and addresses.
