Wheaton, IL: NAMI DuPage announces that Wheaton-based First Trust and the FT Cares Foundation, the philanthropic arm of First Trust, has gifted it $10,000 for its Workforce Development program. The overall objective of the program is to help people with serious mental illness reach their full employment potential and build a bridge to economic self-sufficiency. Jane Doyle, President, and Lisa Weier, Director of Development of FT Cares Foundation, presented NAMI DuPage with a check while touring NAMI DuPage’s two social enterprises, the RISE & Shine Café and the RISE & Shine Print Shop, at the DuPage Community Center. Funding from the organizations will help to underwrite the cost of coaching, instructing, training and mentoring individuals living with mental illness in the Workforce Development program for calendar year 2017.
“We thank FT Cares Foundation for recognizing the importance of having a Workforce Development program for individuals living with mental illness in our communities” said Angela Adkins, Executive Director. “Currently, there is no other program operating in DuPage County that addresses the employment needs of this population. With First Trust’s financial support, we can continue to help more individuals with mental illness get jobs and gain financial independence.”
The workforce development program, known as “RISE & Shine”, provides the necessary tools, skills, confidence building and support that individuals living with mental illness need to obtain employment to aid in their recovery. The program encompasses job preparedness and life skills training as well as job skills training directly related to employment in general office administration, commercial printing and food/beverage service.
