Hospital Recovery Connections

Hospital Recovery Connections

Hospitalization for mental health concerns can be frightening, and can often increase feelings of hopelessness and defeat.  Both diagnosed individuals and their families often feel unable to see beyond the immediate trials to a better future.  But the truth is that many Americans will need some kind of intensive mental health treatment in their lifetime, and most hospitalized individuals will go on to achieve many of their personal and career goals.

These related emotions commonly interfere with recovery. To help those coping with natural reactions of this kind, NAMI DuPage has a numerous and diverse group that makes up our Speaker’s Bureau. These speakers are trained to tell their personal stories and draw others toward hope and acceptance. With speaking programs in all 6 full service DuPage County Hospitals, NAMI DuPage has a significant presence for anyone undergoing in-depth mental health treatment in our area. We serve both inpatient and partial hospitalization clients in both adult and adolescent programs.

NAMI’s Hospital Recovery Connections is a multi-tired program designed to extend this message of hope and recovery to those who are currently undergoing inpatient or partial hospitalization treatment.  Complementing the work of physicians and therapists, NAMI’s programs demonstrate the real-life successes of real people who’ve found recovery from mental illness. These presentations help change lives as we again and again have heard participants say that the presentation has helped them to learn :don’t ever give up” and that “we are not alone in dealing with mental illness”.
