Ways to Give

You can make a gift in the following ways:

Outright Gifts

To maximize your charitable deduction and deliver immediate benefits to NAMI DuPage, please consider the following gift options:

1. Cash:
Gifts in the form of cash which include checks and credit cards are all accepted by NAMI DuPage. Checks should be made payable to “NAMI DuPage” and sent to the following address:

2. Publicly Traded Securities:
Gifts of publicly traded securities, including stocks, mutual funds, municipal and corporate bonds, and treasury bills and notes, which are traded on the New York or American Stock Exchange shall be accepted by NAMI DuPage. Gifts of appreciated securities may provide you with tax benefits. Please discuss you tax situation with your financial advisor, accountant or attorney.

Gifts of stock may be wire transferred to a NAMI DuPage brokerage account. Please contact the Resource Development Department for further details regarding this type of transaction. When transferring stock, please ask your broker to include your name on the transaction so that it will help us to identify your gift and acknowledge it promptly.

3. Real Property:
Gifts of real estate may include developed and undeveloped residential and commercial property. DuPage County will be accepted, unless NAMI DuPage shall determine that the property is not suitable for acceptance as a gift.  Unless the property is to be kept for programmatic use, NAMI DuPage will attempt to sell at a reasonable price reflected by the current market value.

4. Tangible Personal Property:
Gifts of jewelry, artwork, collections and other personal property may be accepted by NAMI DuPage.  Gifts of personal property shall not be accepted without first being appraised by a 3rd party chosen by NAMI DuPage.

5. Life Insurance:
NAMI DuPage will generally accept life insurance but it must be named as both beneficiary and irrevocable owner of an insurance policy before a life insurance policy can be recorded as a gift.

6. Vehicle Donation
NAMI DuPage is registered with Vehicle Donation to Any Charity, LLC (V-DAC), a commercial fundraiser registered with the Attorney General of the State of California, to accept vehicles, such as cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles or motor homes, for our benefit. There are NO costs to the donor. The costs of towing, title transfer, processing and management of the vehicle donation program are paid for from the proceeds of the vehicle sale. V-DAC also maintains a $2 million liability and indemnity policy to protect donors and nonprofit. Net proceeds are sent to V-DAC’s “Central Charity” for the benefit of NAMI DuPage. NAMI DuPage is guaranteed a minimum 70% of net proceeds and receives even more on higher value vehicles. Donors are entitled to receive a tax deduction equal to the sales price of the vehicle, if they itemize their deductions. If the vehicle is sold for less than $500, donors can deduct the “fair market value” up to $500. Donors will receive a tax receipt or IRS Form 1098C stating what the vehicle sold for within 30 days of the sale.To start you vehicle donation process, please click on the following ICON.Vehicle Donation

Honorary/Memorial Gift

Honorary & Memorial Gifts are a way to pay tribute to an individual’s life and show how they live in your heart while supporting our mission and investing in a valuable community resource. When NAMI DuPage receives an honorary or memorial gift, we notify family members to advise them of the gift.

Planned Giving

Planned Giving refers to any charitable gift that requires more thought and planning to execute than outright gifts. In addition, planned giving has been traditionally defined as a gift that an individual makes near the end of his/her lifetime. To leave a lasting legacy and receive assurance that your personal goals may be achieved, please consider the legacy giving options as described in more detail in the Planned Giving section.

Workplace Giving

Automatic Payroll Deductions: If your employer engages in workplace giving and has an automatic payroll deduction program, you may be able to designate your payroll-deducted donations directly to NAMI DuPage. Please check with your employer to see if NAMI DuPage is included on your company’s list of eligible nonprofits.

Employee Matching Gifts: Employee Matching Gift programs are workplace giving programs where companies may double or triple donations made by employees to nonprofit organizations. Check with your employer to see if they will consider matching your gift to NAMI DuPage.

Annual Giving Campaigns: While many companies recognize that employee engagement is impacted by an ongoing, year-round giving strategy, there are many companies who prefer to give one sizable contribution on a seasonal annual giving campaign. Please check with your employer to see if they would consider a donation to NAMI DuPage’s annual giving campaign.

In-kind Gifts

In lieu of monetary donations, NAMI DuPage may also accept donated in-kind gifts of either goods or services. Please call NAMI DuPage’s office to inquire about donating particular in-kind goods or services.

Donate Services to Offset Costs, such as:

  • Spring/Fall clean-up of landscaping on NAMI DuPage-owned properties
  • Repairs and general maintenance of NAMI DuPage-owned properties
  • Reduction in professional service fees

Donate Goods to Offset Costs, such as:

  • Silent Auction items for our fundraising events
  • Office supplies and equipment
  • Inventory for new Employment program
