Mental Health Awareness Month

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has served as a national movement to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and advocate for the millions of Americans affected by mental health conditions. Each May, we are reminded that mental health is an essential part of overall well-being—and that support, understanding, and connection matter.

This May, NAMI DuPage invites you to take action. Join us in raising awareness, starting conversations, and supporting those impacted by mental health conditions. Whether you attend a program, share resources, or simply check in with someone you care about, every action makes a difference.

Explore our events, access resources, and be part of a community committed to hope, healing, and support. Together, we can create a future where mental health is prioritized—and no one has to navigate their journey alone.

You Matter Too: Understanding Caregiver Burnout
Caregiving can be one of the most meaningful roles a person takes on—but it can also be one of the most physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding. Often rooted in love, culture, and a deep sense of responsibility, many caregivers support children, aging parents, or loved ones without fully recognizing the toll it can take on their own well-being.
This presentation explores caregiver burnout through both an individual and community lens, shedding light on how ongoing caregiving responsibilities can impact a person over time. We will discuss the signs and effects of burnout, including those that often go unnoticed, and acknowledge the cultural and societal expectations that can make it difficult for caregivers to prioritize themselves or ask for help.
Together, we will reflect on the importance of self-care as a necessity—not a luxury—in order to continue showing up for others in a healthy and sustainable way. Participants will gain practical strategies for managing stress, setting boundaries, and building supportive connections within their communities.
This session aims to create a space for reflection, validation, and empowerment—reminding caregivers that taking care of themselves not only supports their own well-being, but also strengthens the families and communities they care so deeply about.
